As you already know, due to COVID-19 Muscogee Lodge cancelled the Spring Ordeal (the status of the Summer Ordeal is unknown).
The National Order of the Arrow has extended the time for a candidate to complete their Ordeal from the usual 12 months from date of election to 24 months. This applies to all candidates elected between February 1, 2019 through July 1, 2020.
Muscogee Lodge recognizes that some OA candidates may wish to complete their Ordeal as soon as possible. As explained in the earlier email, Muscogee plans to host multiple “mini-Ordeals” this year.
Online Registration for the mini Ordeal is OPEN!
The health and safety of our members is our greatest concern. Our plans for mini-Ordeals are in keeping with the best practices and recommendations of the BSA, Indian Waters Council, CDC and DHEC. One significant limitation is that each mini-Ordeal will only include a small number of candidates. Those considering a mini-Ordeal must not have any risk factors associated with COVID-19 and should have had no known exposure to anyone with COVID-19 within the past two weeks. (link to COVID-19 Camping Requirements below)
The first two of these mini-Ordeals were held 19-20 June and 26-27 June at Windsor United Methodist Church in northeast Columbia. As mentioned in the earlier email, priority was given to those candidates who have expressed an interest in Momentum, the OA’s newest national event, which will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia from 3-8 August 2020. Momentum will focus on the many programmatic opportunities that exist at the Summit. Go here for more information about this event.
Muscogee Lodge tentatively has three additional mini-Ordeals in July 2020:
10-11 July @ Camp Barstow,
17-18 July @ TBD,
24-25 July @ TBD.
Please also keep in mind that candidates elected in the past year have 24 months to complete their Ordeals. If you are interested in attending one of these mini Ordeals you can register HERE. ALL registrations will be automatically put on a “wait list.” Even though registration is not first-come, first served, we do encourage you to register early. Those selected to participate in a particular mini-Ordeal will be contacted individually and given additional instructions to complete their registration.
Thank you for your patience as we work through the safest and best way to offer Ordeal opportunities during this pandemic. The leadership of Muscogee Lodge has been working very hard and over an ever changing “landscape” of guidelines and considerations.
If you have any questions, please direct them to the Lodge Adviser, Dan Wagner.
